This specialisation encompasses image guided procedures.
Guided procedures can include:
- Joint injections- a steroid and local anaesthetic that is injected through a needle for pain relief. It includes extremities (arms and legs) and facet joints (spine).
- Nerve blocks- a steroid and local anaesthetic that is injected through a needle next to certain nerve groups for pain relief and to identify the source of pain. It includes epidural and peri-neural injections.
- Biopsies- tissue samples taken through a needle and sent to pathology for diagnosis.
- Drainages- excess fluid that should not be present is drained from the body through a thin tube.
